Monique's Guide To Aspen
March 6, 2014
Aspen has easily become one of my favorite places to travel with my family all season round. The wintertime offers world-renowned skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snowmobiling, while the summer brings fly fishing, bungee jumping and mountain biking. The town’s endless outdoor activities offer something for the whole family to enjoy. Here are my top picks for this diamond in the rough destination:
Nestled among the alpine lakes and snow-capped peaks, the St. Regis Residences is our go-to place to stay when we visit. The location is absolutely ideal - at the base of Aspen Mountain (between the Gondola and lift 1A), within walking distance to Aspen’s luxurious shops, restaurants and entertainment.
The Little Nell is Aspen’s only five-star, five-diamond property, and the only hotel with ski-in, ski-out access to the mountain. It is truly luxury and sophistication at its finest!
Considered to be one of the best spas in the Rocky Mountain area, the 15,000 sq foot spa (build completely below ground!) is the perfect way for me to relax and refuel after a long day on the slopes.
Long before we started vacationing in Aspen, we bought a beautiful piece by Donald Baechler from this contemporary art gallery. The painting currently hangs in my living room.
The Cooper Avenue location (right next to Wagner Park) has all the gear youcould possibly need to play the part of a true Aspen local.
I love to visit this home decor store for inspiration and ideas for my table settings. They have one-of-a-kind pieces & settings to spice up any dinner party!
This family owned business is a great place to find home accents, including European antiques, hand painted furniture and even antler mounts! I never leave empty handed.
Recommended by a close friend and Aspen local, this florist creates the most stunning floral arrangements. My husband never fails to impress with flowers from here.
Such a cute Aspen coffee shop! Great for a quick bite and warm-up before hitting the slopes in the morning.
Fun and friendly environment with a brunch menu that is to die for! Most all of their menu items are organic and locally grown.
The atmosphere at Ajax can’t be beat. I love to come here to meet friends for après ski and people watch over a glass of wine.
An Aspen must! Great place to grab a tasty gourmet burger and very family friendly - next to an outdoor ice skating rink (that turns into a mini golf course in the summer months), which my kids love!
My favorite place to dine in Aspen. The table service is unlike no other, thanks to the personal attention to detail from Jodi and her team. Great wine list with wonderful sommelier, Alex.
The rotisserie chicken with pommes frites, sautéed kale and sage oil is a family order staple.
Campo’s cuisine feels like you are eating in the heart of Italy. Dave (one of the partners) always makes us feel at home in the restaurant’s warm family setting. Sit on the patio and order a bottle of Brunello.
Simple Italian cooking done to perfection. Excellent drinks and fantastic service.
The red snapper is exceptional. I come here every time I am in town!
The chocolate is always delicious and freshly prepared. The most difficult part about visiting here is deciding what to order (and getting my kids out the door)!
Hard not to be a fan of a place where the fresh baked goods have people lined up out the door at most hours of the day! There’s something for everyone in this tiny little bakery and gelataria. The gelato and cupcakes are two of my guilty pleasures.
Perfect for family skiing and an excellent learning mountain for beginners.
My kids have become pros thanks to their amazing ski school.
